Dr. Amanda Shoemake
DVM

Veterinarian and Owner

Dr. Amanda Shoemake received both her bachelor’s degree and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Auburn University.

Dr. Shoemake was born and raised in Memphis, TN and she began working in the Veterinary field at the age of 13. She immediately knew that she would do this for the rest of her life. Upon graduation from vet school in 2008, Dr. Shoemake began her career as a veterinarian in Las Vegas, and then again practiced in Tennessee. She has years of experience in general practice, but also has experience in both emergency medicine and surgery.

Dr. Shoemake truly enjoys the medicine and science of Veterinary medicine, as well as educating pet parents and staff to better the lives of her patients. She has professional interests in dentistry, as well as preventative medicine and soft tissue surgery.

Dr. Shoemake never dreamed of running her own hospital.  When the opportunity presented itself in 2018, she jumped in with both feet.  Dr. Shoemake is a current member of a group that promotes better management within the veterinary practice, called VMG. She attends meetings 2-3 times a year, in which she soaks in all things business. In addition, she does medical and surgical training yearly as continuing education.

When she’s away from Haywood Animal Hospital, Dr. Shoemake enjoys all that western North Carolina has to offer. She loves to hike and explore the surrounding areas. She adores downtown Hendersonville and enjoys the many tastes that it and Asheville have to offer. She has three dogs, Ralphie, a mischievous Cockapoo, Rhubarb, a rambunctious Goldendoodle, and Gertie, a rescued teacup Chihuahua. She also has one cat, Toaster Strudel (Toast), whom was a rescue found in a warehouse fire in Greenville. The lights of her life include her husband, Erik, and their three (two- legged) kids, Mason, Hannah and Owen.
