Erik

Erik is the hospital administrator of Haywood Animal Hospital, but his job encompasses so much more, including client relations manager, staff manager and overall handyman.  Before his introduction into veterinary medicine in 2018, Erik had a wide array of life and job experience. Originally from New Jersey (near Cape May), Erik worked as a software engineer for Harrah’s Casinos. He has an undergraduate degree from Stockton College in New Jersey, as well as a Master’s degree from LaSalle University in Philadelphia. Erik transferred with Harrah’s to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he met his future wife.

In 2008, Erik decided to pursue a more fulfilling career and went back to college. He received a Master’s in education from UNLV. The Shoemakes then moved to Memphis, TN, where Erik worked as a STEM teacher at the local high school.

As our hospital administrator, Erik is a vital member of our team and has an array of duties. His passion is client communication and he strives to please each of our pet parents, ensuring they have a good experience while in our hospital. He also has done extensive training on low stress handling and helps the team in our quest to achieve this with every appointment.

When he is not at the hospital, Erik enjoys visiting the craft breweries and cideries that the Hendersonville and Asheville areas have to offer. He enjoys traveling, telling dad jokes, and he spends most of his spare time having fun with his kids.
